College Sport - Young Sportsperson of the Year (YSPOTY) Awards

The College Sport Young Sportsperson of the Year Awards (YSPOTY), delivered by College Sport Auckland, celebrate the outstanding achievements of secondary school athletes across the Auckland region.

Held annually, these prestigious awards recognise excellence across a wide range of sports, acknowledging students who have performed at an exceptional level in school, regional, national, and international competition. The individual sport categories are typically the top 3 athlete finalists (boys & girls categories) in each sport from across the region.

Ranking officials submit their top 5 finalists for athletes who meet the criteria. Schools are forwarded this list, and can then submit notable omissions. Finalists are then confirmed representing the very best performers in their respective sports. From these finalists, the highest honours - Young Sportsman of the Year and Young Sportswoman of the Year - are awarded to those who have demonstrated outstanding achievement at the highest levels. See the list of previous year's overall Sportsman of the Year to the right. I'm sure you'll recognise some household names on that list!

Awards are also presented for all-round sporting excellence, service to sport, and contributions as student coaches or officials.

The All-Rounder Award recognizes students who have reached high levels in at least three sports. Nominees must have competed in at least three sports from the College Sport delivered competitions/events at senior level. These sports must require a different training regime and skill set for the nominee to be identified as a true all-rounder. Nominees must be a:
• Top 3 individual/team place getter at a College Sport Auckland Championship event; and/or
• Top 10 individual/team place getter at a National Championship event. And in at least one sport:
• National age group representative; and/or
• Regional age group representative; and/or
• Regionally ranked performer

Widely regarded as one of the premier accolades in secondary school sport, the YSPOTY Awards provide an opportunity to recognise and celebrate the dedication, talent, and success of Auckland’s top young athletes.
